The Significance of Friday

In the name of Allaah, the most gracious the most merciful.

All praise be to Allah Who creates day and night sequentially so that we can work in day and sleep at night and count our time. Peace and blessings of Allaah be upon the one after whom there is no other prophet.

Dear brothers and sisters, at first take my cordial salam, Assalamualaikum.
I hope you all are well by the grace of almighty Allah.
Today is Friday. It is a public holiday too in Muslim countries. Friday has many significance in Islam. The word "Friday" means Jumma day in Arabic language. The literal meaning of Jumma is congregation. Muslims this day gather in a Mosque thereby for offering two units of prayer collectively in the congregation. Before prayer orator gives a sermon which is the most important part of this congregation. This sermon is known to us as Khutba. This Jumma prayer is obligatory for every Muslim except child, sick, insane, slave and women. As Allah says:

O Believers! when he call to prayer is made on Friday, then proceed to the remembrance of Allaah and leave off business. That is best for you, if only you knew.
(Quran 62:9)

This day however, has many others importance. I am going to describe some of its importance in this article.

1. Some special event took place  on this day.
In our history, some most important incident had been occurred on this day. Those are-
-Our forefather, the first man Hazrat Adom (peace be upon him) was created on this day.
- Eve and Adom (peace be upon them) were expelled from paradise.
-Their repentance was accepted.
-The father of all humanity (Adom) died.
In addition, the last Hour (Keyamat) will take place on a Friday.

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "The best day on which the sun has risen is Friday; on it Adam was created. on it he was made to enter Paradise, on it he was expelled from it. And the last hour will take place on no day other than Friday."

[ Sahih Muslim 1857 ]

2. There is great chance to erase our sins.
By attending the congregational prayer we can erase our sins we committed between two Jumma, i.e in a week. As the prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) stated that, "He who took a bath and then came for Jumu'a prayer and then prayed what was fixed for him, then kept silence till the Imam finished the sermon, and then prayed along with him, his sins between that time and the next Friday would be forgiven, and even of three days more."

[ Sahih Muslim 1867 ]

3. There is a moment when Allah answers our supplication.
We are depended upon Allah for all our needs. We alone can not fulfill our need without Allah's help. Whenever we are needy we seek Allah's grace, when are sick we call Allah to heal us, if we are in a danger we call Allah for rescuing us from danger. But Allah does not accept our prayer all time. In Friday there is a time when Allah responses to our supplication.
The apostle of Allah, Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "
There is an hour on Friday and if a Muslim gets it while offering Salat (prayer) and asks something from Allah (SWT), then Allah (SWT) will definitely meet his demand.' And he (the Prophet (SAW) pointed out the shortness of that particular time with his hands"

[ Sahih Bukhari ]

4. Revelation of the last verse of the holy Quran.
It is the day on which the last verse of the holy Quran was revealed. Allah, on this day declared the fulfillment of His Rulings (Deen).

Narrated Tariq bin Shihab:
"A man among the Jews said to 'Umar bin Al-Khattab: 'O Commander of the Believers! If we were the ones unto whom this Ayah was revealed, 'This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favor upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion (5:3).' - then we would have taken that day as a day of celebration.' So 'Umar bin Al-Khattab said to him: 'Indeed I do know which day this Ayah was revealed upon. It was revealed on the Day of 'Arafah, on Friday.'"

5. Its magnificent rewards.
The Fifth cause of its significance is for its numerous magnificent rewards. For example:
Attending in Jumma prayer regularly is expiation for sins except major sin ( Major sin is not be forgiven without repentance). As Abu Huraira (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
Verily the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: The five (daily) prayers and from one Friday prayer to the (next) Friday prayer, and from Ramadhan to Ramadhan are expiations for the (sins) committed in between (their intervals) provided one shuns the major sins.
On this day we are advised to supplicate Allah more often for our prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He (peace be upon him) states that our supplication will be displayed in front of him. As
Aus bin Aus (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "Among the best of your days is Friday; so supplicate Allah more often for me in it , for your supplications will be displayed to me." He was asked: "O Messenger of Allah! How will our blessings be displayed to you when your decayed body will have mixed with the earth?" He (peace be upon him) replied, "Allah has prohibited the earth from consuming the bodies of the Prophets."

It is such a day that singling out of the day (Friday) for fasting is prohibited in Islam. Abu Huraira ( may Allah be pleased with him) said, " I heard the messenger of Allah ( peace be upon him) said: none of you should fast on a Friday unless he/she fasts the day before or the day after."
This means we should not fast only for Friday. If we wish to observe fast on Friday we then have to fast Thursday or Saturday with Friday. Or If we are used to fast on particular date in every month and the day is somehow Friday then it is permitted to fast on this Friday. For example: I am used to fast the first day of every month and the first day of November 2019 was Friday. Since it is my regular fast, therefore in this Friday I am allowed to fast.

In fine, however, I am expressing my ineptness for holding out the all significance of Friday. The prophet Muhammad (peace be upon hm) has stated numerous significance of Jumma.Allah has created on this day what He wished and He will. As a servant of Allah we just seek His forgiveness and call Him for leading us on the right path.
